fame or contribution

This evening, I had an interesting conversation with a friend. I suggested that perhaps there are two types of people. The first type has a strong desire for recognition, fame, and the admiration of others. They seek approval and are driven by a need to be seen as important or noteworthy. The second type is motivated by a strong desire to help others and make a positive impact on the world. If I had to name this type, I would call them the "contribution-driven" individuals. Of course, some people may be equally motivated by both desires, while others may not be significantly driven by either.

In recent years, with the development and spread of social networking sites, the desire for approval has been increasingly stimulated. It seems easier than ever for ordinary people to gain recognition. On the other hand, I have noticed a growing number of people engaging in volunteer work or establishing organizations to address social issues. This suggests to me that the number of those who wish to contribute to society is also on the rise.

Also, an individual with a history of approval-seeking behavior is likely to evolve towards a contribution-oriented mindset at some point in their development
