I am reminded of the viewpoint critiquing the notion of the "American Dream". It postulates that a significant drawback of American society lies in this ideal. The premise suggests that within a free and open society, everyone ostensibly possesses equal opportunities for success and fulfillment, though this assertion is increasingly diverging from reality. Consequently, individuals who do not attain success or realize their aspirations are often deemed solely accountable for their shortcomings. They are compelled to view themselves through a lens of despair and inadequacy. This perception, in turn, can precipitate various social issues, including an upsurge in criminal activity, among others.
